The following is reprinted from "One Faith," the magazine of the Old Roman Catholic Church (Issue No. 3 of 1961) published by the Old Roman Catholic Church in Great Britain.

"The Second Synod of Hamilton was held on May 22nd, 1961. Archbishop Marchenna gave a brief address in which he made known his intention to ask for two Episcopal Elections. ..... The Synod considered the Archbishop's suggestion, and the whole Synod, clergy and laity, elected the Very Rev. Joseph Daniel Girard, V.G., as Bishop of Hamilton and the Rt. Rev. Robert Alfred Burns, a priest of the Diocese of Westville-Chicago, was elected Bishop-Auxiliary to the Metropolitan."

The following is excerpted from the "Acts of the Metropolitan See," Old Roman Catholic Church in North America for Advent, 1961 (Vol. 1, No. 4):

"On October 9, 1961, within the Church of St. Mary's Polish Church (Chicago), the Most Reverend Robert Alfred Burns, D.D., was elevated and consecrated Auxiliary Bishop to the Archbishop-Metropolitan. The Consecrator was the Archbishop-Metropolitan, assisted by the Most Reverend Emile Rodriguez-Fairfield, D.D. as Senior Co-consecrator, and the Most Reverend Bishop John, D.D. as Junior Co-Consecrator. ..."
